We developed the idea for this campaign because of the unique nature of our aims. We want to share this process with you. At NIRMAN and Vidyashram, we are: 1) Developing a model of schooling that truly fulfills the aims of education, and solves practically the current problems with education in India , to show that all children can learn successfully together 2) Making products and services so that our ideas about education and children can reach more people and help be a catalyst for a revolution in education 3) Creating ways for people around the world to join in this movement We want our organisation to be self-sufficient. We do not want to be dependent on donations for our regular running costs. We are working on some business-oriented schemes, which will cover costs such as infrastructure and development. However, the running costs must be met by income from the school, through its fees. And, in order to make sure of our second aim of integration of children, we must provide scholarships of between 50% and 100% to almost all our students. Currently, our energies are disproportionately spent in covering this cost, rather than also on our other aims. We have had a sponsorship program, through which people can support a child’s education for at least a year at a time. However, we do not want sponsorship to be one of our main ways to continue our scholarships. There are already many sponsorship programs in the world, mostly working for the support of very poor or orphaned children. Our school is very different from these, and we do not want to be in competition with them, since they are doing good and important work in a field that is completely separate from ours. We decided to develop an endowment which will support our running costs so that we can make a commitment to excellent education for all children, and focus our energies on reaching people and organisations around India. We want to do this through the support and investment of people around the world who believe in excellent education for all children.
