Music and Dance at NIRMAN

Music is a important focus at NIRMAN. Through the Music and Dance Studio we hold a concert series called Parampara, workshops for children, music courses for American and European students, classes for children and youth, and the composition and production of music for children.

To achieve all of this, we have a musicians’ network of artists who want to work with NIRMAN to promote musical awareness and learning, and support for musical traditions as well as inspiration for their evolution. Senior artists perform, teach, and can guide NIRMAN’s young leaders. Younger artists can perform and also participate in workshops by visiting musicians. NIRMAN also has a series of ‘Fun’ performances, that integrate the arts to create thought-provoking performances pieces. We invite musicians to participate in these.

We have had a resident dancer, Arshad Mirza, who has taught Capoeira, Modern, and Improvised Dance in Vidyashram School and the Resource Centre. Apart from performing in the Fairs, NIRMAN performances, and Varanasi competitions, a team of school students trained in these forms is preparing to visit other cities to perform.
