NIRMAN was set up in 1988 to work in the city of Varanasi. Below are some of the projects through which we work in the city today. Vidyashram-The Southpoint School Vidyashram was set up in 1990. It demonstrates the findings of NIRMAN’s research in education through actual pedagogic practice. Its main goals are integration of children fom all backgrounds, child-centred teaching and curricula, and a focus on and use of the arts. It aims to both be a model for other schools, extending its ideas through workshops with educators and parents, and teachers’ training programs, and also be a centre for innovative teaching, being on the cutting-edge of educational ideas and practice. Resource Centre The Centre opens the doors to NIRMAN’s resources through an after-school and evening program for all ages. There is a free public library with an extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction, reference and textbooks, magazines, and newspapers in English and Hindi for children, youth, and adults, classes in karate, English, and the arts, and weekly events such as film screenings, lectures, discussions, exhibitions, and performances. There are also workshops in parenting and teachers’ training, as well as special workshops by visiting fellows. Check the events calendar to see what is going on at NIRMAN now!
