Professional Fellowships invite experienced professionals, educators, administrators, and senior practitioners to contribute to the long-term development of NIRMAN while becoming part of the intellectual and everyday life of the institution.
Each Fellowship is developed individually around the Fellow's experience, the area of work, and the evolving life of NIRMAN. While many involve extended residential stays, others take different forms depending on the project and the opportunities that emerge through conversation.

Why Professional Fellowships?
For more than thirty years, people have come to NIRMAN from many different backgrounds. Some arrived to teach, others to make art, conduct research, share ideas, or simply spend time in conversation. Many shaped the institution in lasting ways.
Professional Fellowships grow out of this history, inviting experienced professionals, educators, arts administrators and senior practitioners to become part of NIRMAN's continuing development.
Professional Fellows work alongside the permanent team on clearly defined projects that strengthen the institution. A Fellow might help develop artistic programming, strengthen school systems, build fundraising or communications strategies, mentor emerging leaders, or establish organisational structures. The aim is not simply to solve today's problems, but to help shape an institution that will continue to grow for decades.
More than a consultancy or volunteer role, a Professional Fellowship is an opportunity to help shape NIRMAN's artistic, educational, organisational and ecological culture—not only through their work, but through the questions they ask, the conversations they begin, and the experience they share with those who will carry the work forward.

Each fellowship is shaped around the Fellow’s experience and interests, alongside the evolving needs and possibilities at NIRMAN.
You might be a school leader, app developer, arts administrator, senior artist, nonprofit professional, fundraiser, curator, organizational leader—or someone whose experience crosses several of these areas.
You may be on sabbatical, taking a career break, returning to India after time abroad, recently retired, or simply looking for a period in your life when your experience can contribute to something larger than a single project.
What matters most is depth of experience, curiosity, generosity, and an interest in building alongside others.

Professional Fellows are residents as well as contributors.
You will be a part of the everyday life of NIRMAN alongside children, teachers, artists, researchers and other residents. Shared meals, conversations, performances, music, the school and the Gangavan Forest all form part of the environment in which the work happens.
