Vidyashram - The Southpoint School
There are two big problems with education in India that we are working on at Southpoint.
The first is that education is differentiated according to class and good schooling is limited to the wealthy.
|
The second is that children are often educated in ways that are irrelevant to their lives. Children do not learn to reason or take an interest in books and the arts.
|
Southpoint is a modern school with liberal education of global standards. It is open to all, with financial assistance available according to need. Our philosophy is that there should be an understanding of family and community backgrounds, but that all children must be treated as one, and that all children can learn together.
At the heart of our efforts lies integration.
Second, we value local skills and crafts highly, and weave them into the activities of our school. We believe that children can learn to appreciate their traditions and culture while being part of a quickly progressing world, and therefore, also provide state-of-the-art facilities and training in skills that are truly global.
We want a society of explorers and pioneers, not one of followers, of scientists and artists, not deskmen.

Southpoint Vidyashram is a model school that aims to develop the technology and techniques to give excellent education to every child, without regard to background or ability.
We offer training for teachers of other schools (as well as on-site training), and work with teachers, administrators, and policy-makers to improve education around the country.
